Hockey and Mega Blocks

Syd's hockey tournament was a lot of fun this weekend.  Her team came in first so they all got a gold medal and she and the other goalie for her team both got MVP Goalie of the game trophies!  And of course I forgot the camera so these pics were taken at home.

Alex did great getting new casts on today.  He's going to get new ones every week so that means taking off the old ones before we go.  That was as hard as I remember!  We have to soak him in the tub, cut lines in the casts to soften them up and use brute strength to rip them off.  I don't have the strength to do it, so thankfully James can come home and help.  Otherwise, Alex would probably still be in the tub soaking!
I brought in a bunch of Mega Blocks that have been in the garage forever.  He is loving them!  I took a video but had issues loading it so here are a couple of pictures.

"Special Boots"

Alex was Great with casting yesterday!  He just sat there and watched :-)  He has a full length cast on his left leg and a below the knee cast on his right.  I think he's a little sore and annoyed, but I don't think it will last long.  Once he figures out he can still walk, life will be back to 2 year old wackiness!  I hope he figures it out quickly because
HE IS HEAVY!!!!

Albuquerque

We spent the first few days of spring break in Albuquerque with our friends from Phoenix.  The kids had a great time! Especially "swim swim later" as Alex would say at the end of the day!
Stopping off to buy a camper on the way.

Not too sure about his first train ride.

Alex was fascinated by the stingrays!

This is in front of one of the huge fish tanks at the aquarium.

More stingrays

The biggest and ugliest puffer fish we've ever seen!

These stingrays were HUGE!

Syd at Explora the childrens museum, it's hard to wrangle 4 kids so I only got a couple pics.  This is the best childrens museum we've ever been too!

Sharing DS games before hitting the road.

Back in the Cast

We saw Alex's orthopaedist today and she wants to cast his left foot again.  We'll have him casted for 3-4 weeks and if there's no improvement, back in to surgery to cut the achilles tendon again.

So back into one full length leg cast and one shoe from his brace 24/7, not going to be fun with as active as he is now.  But that can wait until next week, we have swimming to do this weekend :-)

One Year...

One year ago we loaded on a small bus on the other side of the world with 3 other families for the short ride to our son.  What a year it's been!  It's been much easier than I thought it would be and some rough spots too.

  • The surprise surgery for hypospadias
  • The terrible twos!
  • He really likes to get up early, I'm not a morning person.
  • The weekly cast changes were much tougher than I thought they would be.
  • The loss of "me" was hard to get used to again, being needed constantly, having a constant companion, not being able to just pick up and go anymore, working around naps again!

But what a great kid he's become!

  • He's a little comedian.  If he has water in his cup he'll run through his list of beverages with hilarity.  (He's going to be in trouble at school I think :-)
         COCO MILK
         REGULAR MILK
         APPLE JUICE
         ORANGE JUICE
  •  He talks amazingly well and is always chatting.
  • "Walk Later" is the first thing he says in the morning.
  • He runs everywhere now!
  • The joy on his face when he is walking is fantastic to see!
  • He loves to read!
  • He LOVES his big sister (she's a wonderful help and loves him right back!)
  • Dump trucks, buses, trains, airplanes, helicopters are his favorite things.
  • He has a special relationship with food :-)
  • He has a great laugh and we hear it often.
  • He likes going shopping and out for coffee with the ladies ;-)
  • Did I mention he's funny?
